The World Economic Forum
These links were taken from a list provided on the wto-nyc-summit@topica.com
listserve, related to the anti-globalization NGO summit that was held in November
in NYC. CitNet hasn't extensively reviewed these links, but we put there here
for context and reference, since PrepCom 2 will be held in New York at the same
time as WEF (WEF starts the Friday of the first week, ending the Tuesday of
the second week).
World Economic Forum (WEF) Details
January 31 - February 5, 2002: New York City
The World Economic Forum is an annual event, described by The Economist as
"the summit of summits in the business world", formerly held in
Davos, Switzerland (and sometimes referred to as simply 'Davos'). The WEF
brings together business, political, media, NGO and academic leaders get together
to discuss topics of common interest. The goal is to help participants understand
and define "the global agenda". Of course, that's the more "official
" description, as many NGOs are opposed to the types of informal agreements
and discussions that go on between big business and governments, outside earshot
of NGOs.
