U.S. Government launches new website highlighting SD partnerships
Today the State Department, on behalf of the U.S. Government, will
launch a new sustainable development partnerships website, www.sdp.gov.
The website provides one-stop-shopping for information regarding the
U.S. Government's partnership efforts to advance economic growth, social
development, and environmental stewardship in the developing world.
It details the dozens of partnerships that the U.S. Government has launched
with other governments, the private sector, international organizations,
and civil society groups to bring hope and opportunity to those living
in the shadow of poverty.
Partnership is the watchword of U.S. strategy in this Administration,"
wrote Secretary Powell in a December 29, 2003 Foreign Affairs article.
"Partnership is not about deferring to others; it is about working
with them."
The partnerships presented on www.sdp.gov
offer a panoramic view of the U.S. Government's new approach to development
policy. This policy aims to raise the quality of people's lives by
1) providing humanitarian assistance, 2) building capacity for good
governance, 3) using better science and technology, 4) encouraging
private sector investment and increased trade, and 5) forging new
partnerships among nations, civil society groups, and the private
sector.
