Worldwatch Institute is publishing their World Summit edition of the State of the World 2002 report in January.

for NGOs in the Washington, DC Area on Friday, Dec. 7th. See event

NCSE is holding a conference this week entitled "Sustainable Communities: Science and Solutions" on Dec. 6-7 in Washington, DC. See website for more.

November 30:
UNEP is holding the Fourth
Meeting of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Group of Ministers or
Their Representatives on International Environmental Governance,
in Montreal, Canada, today through Tuesday.
US Government's closing statement in Morocco on Nov. 9th, during the Kyoto Protocol and climate change negotiations of COP-7. An excerpt: "...although the United States does not intend to ratify that agreement, we have not sought to stop others from moving ahead."
November 29:

The WASTE Summit (Women Assessing the State of The Environment) is this weekend in Pittsburgh, Nov. 9-11, organized by the Rachel Carson Institute and Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO). The conference intends to bring together women from across the country to build a common agenda, share strategies, and forge a strong constituency for a new U.S. domestic and global environmental policy agenda.Third World Network has extensive up-to-date news and reports on the WTO (World Trade Org.) meetings planned for this weekend in Qatar from the Global South's perspective.
Public Citizen has compiled a schedule of WTO-related world events in PDF format planned for this weekend around the world.

Good news from the Conference of the Parties, 6th session (COP6) in Bonn. Final agreements on implementation of the Kyoto Protocol prepare the treaty for ratification. Many NGOs are viewing this as a positive step, but say much more will still need to be done.
The G8 meeting in Genoa saw extreme amounts of violence from the police, triggered by isolated violence from a small number of the thousands of protesters on hand. The Independent Media Center (indymedia.org) has a great amount of in-the-field coverage of events as they've unfolded, from the protesters' viewpoint. You won't see these reports like this in mainstream media...
