US groups prepare for CSD-18

Washington, DC. A number of civil society representatives met in Washington today with members of the US government delegation to the upcoming 18th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, discussing why and how US citizens can learn about and engage in the process.

NYC transportation funds from the the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

On March 30, Mayor Bloomberg announced that $261 million in new federal money will fund projects throughout all five boroughs, and create or preserve approximately 32,000 jobs.
The Bloomberg administration is using the stimulus funding to support key economic development initiatives across the city, supplementing the City's Capital Plan.

Public transportation woes for New York City

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted March 25 to enact a series of steep fare hikes and deep service cuts. Despite that, some officials say there is still time to work out a compromise plan to rescue the troubled agency before the changes start going into effect May 31.
