This August 2002, the United Nations will mark ten years since the Rio
Earth Summit by convening the World Summit on Sustainable Development
(WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Unfortunately, instead of focusing
on protecting natural resources and species around the globe, the WSSD
is being used to further promote corporate-led globalization which includes
privatization of social services and natural resources such as water.
Such an agenda will lead to further devastation for the health of the
planet and rob millions around the world of livelihoods and access to
basic human needs.
Please join us to learn about what's at stake in Johannesburg and to
hear alternative visions that will truly protect natural resources and
ensure justice for everyone on the planet.
Gaston Hall is on the third floor of the Healy Building (with the clock
tower) through the front gates of campus.
Getting there:
Public transportation or cabs are encouraged, as parking is
limited. From the Dupont Circle metro station take the G2 fromMassachusetts
and P Streets to the campus. From Roslyn, VA metro station take the
bus into Georgetown - the campus is a ten minute walk. From either station
take the Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS bus) directly
to campus. From 5-8 pm, the shuttle runs every 10 minutes; from 8-11
pm, the shuttle runs every 20 minutes.

"The future will have no pity for those who, possessing the exceptional
privilege to speak words of truth to the oppressor, instead take refuge
in cynical indifference and cold complicity." -- Frantz Fanon
Pessimism is a luxury that must be saved for better times.
