UN WORLD SUMMIT FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SYMPOSIUM
THE GETTY CENTER, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
APRIL 24, 2002 -- 5:00-8:00 p.m.
The United Nations -- in conjunction with UCLA Burkle Center of
International Relations, USC Sustainable Cities Program, the UN Foundation
and a range of civic groups -- invites you to a forum in Los Angeles
on
Wednesday, April 24, about the World Summit on Sustainable Development
and the crucial issues it will address.
UN Under-Secretary-General Nitan Desai -- the Secretary-General
of the
Johannesburg Summit -- will open the session at 5 p.m. He will be joined
by
Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown and California Secretary for Resources
Mary Nichols. Panel discussions featuring leaders from business,
politics,
environmental and civic groups will follow. The meeting will end with
a
buffet reception and final remarks from international speakers, including
noted Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto.
