Since the Earth Summit ten years ago, globalization has emerged as
one of the major forces shaping the world's future. With the increase
in trade and investment flows so has pollution, poverty and unsustainable
production and consumption. At the same time, many concerns have been
raised at what may be seen as greater rights to corporations and investors
over those of communities and governments. What impact has globalization
had on progress towards sustainability? What are the chances that corporate
accountability will find its proper place in the dialogue and outcomes
of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD)? What is at stake?
Join us to discuss:
- What are US positions on globalization and corporate accountability?
- How will these affect the outcomes of the WSSD?
- What will US NGOs do and say?
- What is at stake?
Among the speakers are:
- David Waskow, Friends of the Earth
- Victor Menotti, International Forum on Globalization
- Russ Gaskin, Co-op America
- Folabi Olagbaju, Amnesty International
- and others
Again, please RSVP as space is limited!
"US Progress Towards Sustainability" is a series of public
issue discussions for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. This
series brings together US civil society organizations with government
representatives to assess US policies and practices for some of the critical
issues addressed by the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
