CitNet workshop at UN Commission on Sustainable Development
The workshop at the UN was on "Defining Sustainable Consumption and Production" with regard to food and agriculture.
The workshop examined some of the tools and processes involved in defining criteria and standards for "sustainability" in agriculture and food industry, and discussed linkages to energy, climate change, sustainable livelihoods and gender issues. Some of the tools discussed were product life cycle analysis and estimations of ecological footprints. Energia's Khamarunga Banda from South Africa presented case studies on sustainable production of biofuels for rural development and empowerment of women .
CitNet affiliates at Sustainable Food Monitor and the International Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture (IPSA) made presentations at the UN on urban-rural linkages for food security and farm to school food programs.
